Digital vs PDF resources: when to use each
Most Psychology Tools resources are available in two formats: digital and PDF. Some resources are also available as audio tools. Choosing the right format depends on how you want to use the resource and how your client prefers to engage.
Digital resources
Digital resources are interactive versions that you can send directly to clients through the platform.
Use digital resources when:
- You want clients to complete work between sessions.
- You would like to review their responses later.
- You want your clients to access resources on their mobile device.
Benefits:
- Clients can view and complete exercises online.
- Responses are saved automatically.
- You can both view and export their completed work.
- No printing or scanning required.
PDF resources
PDF resources are downloadable, printable versions of the same tools.
Use PDF resources when:
- You are working in person and want something to use during the session.
- Your client prefers pen and paper.
- You want to print materials or share them outside the platform.
- You need access to different language versions.
- You are delivering teletherapy and want a well-formatted document to share on screen.
- The visual layout of the resource is particularly important.
Benefits:
- Easy to print and use flexibly.
- Suitable for offline use.
- Consistent, high-quality formatting.
- Often available in multiple languages.
Note on fillable PDFs
Some PDFs are fillable, meaning they can be completed on screen. You can save either a blank or completed version to your computer.
Completed PDFs are not saved within the Psychology Tools platform.
Audio tools
Some resources are available as audio tools, designed to support skills development (for example, guided exercises or techniques).
You can listen to these yourself, or send them to clients to use between sessions.
Use audio tools when:
- You want clients to practice skills regularly (e.g. relaxation, grounding).
- You want to support between-session repetition.
- Your client prefers listening over reading.
Benefits:
- Easy for clients to use on the go.
- Supports repeated practice and habit-building.
- Can complement worksheets and other resources.
