Perfectionism – Self-Monitoring Record
The Pefectionism – Self-Monitoring Record is a structured tool designed to collect information about how clients experience perfectionism.
Perfectionism Self-Monitoring Record
High standards can help you feel motivated and productive. However, if your standards are too demanding or rigid, they can cause problems in your life. People with perfectionism set themselves extremely high standards that often get more demanding as time goes on. If this applies to you, you might also:
- Discount your successes and achievements.
- Feel very anxious about failing.
- Become self-critical when you don’t meet your standards.
One way to learn more about your experience of perfectionism is to use a self-monitoring record. It’s like a diary that shows you when a problem tends to happen, as well as other important details about how it works.
Complete this record whenever you have concerns about meeting your standards or as your therapist has instructed.
Overview
Developing self-monitoring skills teaches clients to systematically observe and record specific targets such as their own thoughts, body feelings, emotions, and behaviors. Though it’s usually introduced early in the therapy process, it can continue to provide an inexpensive and constant measure of problem symptoms and behaviors throughout treatment. The Perfectionism – Self-Monitoring Record is designed to help clients capture information about their demanding standards, as well as the life domains in which they present.
